CHAPTER 15 - NASH
Walking away from Olivia while she was pouring her heart out to me was one of the hardest things Iâd had to do in recent memory. I felt like an ass, but I couldnât stand there and pretend to give her my full attention while my phone blew up in my back pocket.
At first, I ignored the call, pressing decline behind my back while I tried to focus on Oliviaâs words. I thought it was Victor calling again to hover over me.
You would think that turning my image around and getting engaged would get him to hop off my back a little bit. No such luck.
My heart twisted and sank into the pit of my stomach as it rang again. This time, I gave it a peek only to immediately regret it. Violetâs name flashed across my screen. What the fuck did she want?
Did I really care? Probably not, but the fact that she was calling now only meant trouble. Wherever Violet involved herself in a situation, it caused problems. Many problems.
Olivia was still talking about her momâs illness, though, and I felt like a jerk for walking out on her without so much as another word. I wanted to stay.
She looked so sad as she sat on the bed and looked down at her feet. I almost enveloped her in my arms and told her it would be all right. Except I didnât do that. If it wasnât for the call, I didnât know if I would have stopped myself from rushing to Oliviaâs side.
Weâd had a moment, and Iâd ruined it.
I shook my head as I headed down the hallway and grabbed the bag I kept by the door for practices. I never realized how big this place really was, but now that Olivia had pointed it out, I saw it through fresh eyes.
I loved my apartment and I hadnât thought twice when I bought it. But it was large, especially considering I was the only person who lived here. In fact, other than my family, I was the only other person who even saw this place on a frequent basis.
Now, things were different. Oliviaâs presence had been added, and I liked it.
Suddenly my bachelor pad had turned into a shared space, but it felt natural. The only part I hated was that Olivia and I had to have separate bedrooms.
Business and pleasure didnât mix, I supposed. It was hard to put her out of my thoughts after we spent so much time together. We talked strategy often.
Even on the plane ride here, weâd planned the best events to go to, where and how to be seen together, and how she could best complement me. I knew my gut feeling was right about her from the start. She had the looks and the smarts to pull this off.
It fit the story so perfectly that she didnât look like a typical New York model. She was still fucking hot, just not in a long, lanky legs and tiny waist kind of way.
